Spear/Scythe Wielders (✿◠‿◠)
I know I’ve said this in another post but holy sheeot, look how fucking seamless that fighting looks. My god scythes are the coolest fucking weapons on the planet
I will fight you on this.
Alright I’ll give you a shot then.
First of all Scythes are not weapons, they are farm equipment, used for mowing grass and reaping crops.
7. Snath or snaith
Kay see where it says the beard. That’s the blade of the scythe and that’s the only part that’s a blade. For it to be an effective weapon in combat you would have to do a hooking motion behind the opponent then pull into you. Guess what that gets pretty friggin’ redundant after a while and predictable. Sure you could use the Toe end of the scythe to poke them, but guess what, that just means you are attacking from one side which also is pedictable. Not to mention that the entire primary part of it as a weapon is off to the side which makes it unbalanced as hell. That’s what the grips are for, a scythe without said grips would keep tilting downward. The grips while they do make controlling the blade manageable, also limits the kind of moves you can make and from which sides you can make said moves on.
There are reasons why this form of a scythe is never used in combat. Ever.
But let’s take a look at scythes that have been used in combat
War Scythes, notice how the blade isn’t off to the side like the scythes like you see in media? It is because they realized it was silly and made the weapon off balanced.
Rhomphaia. Notice how it looks similar to the war scythe? Gee! I wonder why? The blade is longer and thinner than the war scythe, because it is a variation of a falx a sword with a curved blade bending inward.
How about we look at something that is a bit closer to what you wanted
. Modified versions of sickles (Single handed farming scythes) Used to mostly to trap and disarm an opponent’s weapon. Small and can be used for dual wielding, but it takes a well trained person to use them as someone can hurt themselves severely if they’re not careful.
Now I will admit there is a form of aesthetic appeal for using scythes in fantasy, but please do us all a favor and don’t treat a scythe like a weapon. You just make yourself look silly.
Now on to Spears.
I have nothing against spears, they’re awesome.
